A Marathon of Driving

We left Bryce Canyon Monday, June 11th and have been travelling ever since. We decided to take a different route to get to St. Louis, our next major stop. We travelled back down through Arizona, on the east side of the Grand Canyon and then across New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and finally in to Missouri.

It was amazing to watch the landscape change from red-coloured caves and canyons, to rocks and low mountains, and then to flatlands covered with wheat or cattle.

One of the major highlights of this leg of our journey was stopping in Oklahoma City to view the memorial to the bombing of April '95. It was very sobering and poignant to walk where the building had once stood. The "Survivor Tree" stands as the lone tree that withstood the blast. The statue of Jesus "Jesus Wept" is erected on the site of the oldest church in Oklahoma City that was too damaged by the blast to be saved.

We are in St. Louis now until Sunday. The boys will stay here for hockey camp for a week, Olivia and I will fly to Pennsylvania for her two-week gymnastics camp and Dale & I will meet up for a few days on our own in New York City.

Trusting you are well. Love, Susan for the Hein Family Nomads
